John Tselepis, CPA, MBA is the founder and owner of A-1 Accounting.

John is a graduate of Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, MD, where he received his B.S. degree in accounting in 1975. He completed Loyola's Executive MBA Program in 1976 and has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for 25 years.

In addition to his CPA license, John holds Series 6, Series 6.3 and Series 6.5 Securities Licenses from the Federal Securities and Exchange Commission, licensing him to sell mutual funds and annuities.

John brings 35 years of experience as a financial advisor to A-1 Accounting. He has worked as a Senior Financial Analyst for Baltimore Gas & Electric, where he negotiated rates with the Public Service Commission and performed cost analyses for a wide array of financial projects. He worked for two years with the Morrison Knutson Saudi Arabia Consortium, preparing consolidated financial statements for three consortiums tasked with building the King Khalid Military City.

John served as Financial Comptroller at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was responsible for negotiating rates with the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Committee (HSCRC). His acumen in rate negotiation enabled Hopkins to procure funding for the construction of a new $250 million Psychology/Oncology building.

John then spent six years as a Senior Financial Manager with CW Amos—the tenth largest CPA firm in America—where he prepared financial statements and tax reports for companies ranging in size from $500,000 to $500 million. He continued building a specialty in negotiating hospital rates with the HSCRC and served as an editor for Healthcare Finance Magazine.

In 1987, John was lured away from CW Amos by Harbor Hospital Center to work as Senior Financial Manager. Within his first year, he took the hospital from rock bottom in terms of rates the hospital was allowed to charge to third from the top (only Johns Hopkins and St. Joseph Medical Center were higher in the state of Maryland).

John left Harbor Hospital in 1996 to pursue his dream of opening his own CPA practice in Bel Air, MD named Tselepis & Associates. In 2005, he purchased Cvach Accounting—a CPA practice in Jarrettsville, MD specializing in income taxes. The combined practices led to the creation of A-1 Accounting, which almost a decade later is still going strong. In 2014, we moved to our new location in Havre de Grace, MD.
